Are there additional measures for the collection of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)? Follow
We have a wide range of Personal Protective Equipment Zero Waste Boxes. Our most popular is the Safety Equipment and Protective Gear - Zero Waste Box which accepts masks, gloves and other forms of PPE. You can learn more about our Zero Waste Box system here.
When disposing of a mask, we recommend everyone follows the WHO advice, and washes their hands with soapy water for 30 seconds after handling a mask.
Our Zero Waste Boxes have plastic liners inside, as well as foldable lids to reduce the chance of spread if someone is infected and recycles their mask.
We are also taking extra precautions to minimize the possible spread of illness among the TerraCycle network. Therefore, we have implemented a minimum 2 month quarantine period for high risk parcels which include gloves and masks before sorting and processing, so no additional quarantine is required at your end.
Finally, we only accept masks, and PPE that have been used for "prevention of spread". We can solely accept non-hazardous waste and we cannot collect medical waste, which includes material contaminated with blood or bodily fluids, or waste that originates from health care facilities, hospitals, home care etc. We also cannot accept homemade, fabric or paper face masks. If you or any of your staff are self-isolating, quarantined or suspect COVID-19 contamination of the PPE, please do not use your box to recycle the material and follow government guidelines on how to dispose of such waste.
We also have a blog about mask recycling that you might be interested in.
