What is the difference between public drop-off points and private individual collectors?

Public drop-off points

These are communal collection points run by an administrator who collects waste for recycling. The locations are displayed on our map to allow communities to recycle together.

Search your postcode in our map to see an overview of all waste streams.

If you're looking for a particular programme, visit the relevant programme page and search your postcode on the map. Once you've searched your postcode, public drop-off locations near you will appear. Zoom out if you cannot see any in your immediate area.

Private collectors

Private collectors are individuals registered on specific programmes to recycle their own rubbish from home or on behalf of friends and family..

Please note: Only a few programmes accept private collectors. We recommend becoming a public drop-off point to collect for your community and send larger shipments, reducing the transportation carbon footprint. As a drop-off administrator, you’ll also earn more TerraCycle points that can be redeemed as donations to nonprofits, schools, and charities.
